Renting Out Your Home While You Travel: A Guide for Dorset & Wiltshire Owners

Whether it's a career break, a secondment abroad, a once-in-a-lifetime trip, or simply a few months away, more homeowners across Dorset and Wiltshire are asking the same question: can my property earn its keep while I'm gone? The answer is yes — and it doesn't mean signing over your home to a single long-term tenant.

    Flexible, Not Fixed

There's no rigid minimum period. Whether you're away for a couple of months or the best part of a year, we assess every property and every owner's situation individually. As a bespoke holiday let management company, we flex around what actually suits you, rather than forcing your circumstances into a fixed template.

Still Short-Term Letting, Not a Tenancy

A common misconception is that letting a property for an extended period means finding one long-term tenant. We deliberately don't work this way. Your property continues to be let via normal short-term guest bookings throughout the period you're away — the same holiday-let model we use for any of our managed properties. This keeps things flexible for you, avoids the legal complications of assured shorthold tenancy status, and means you're not tied to a single occupant for months at a time.

The Same Thorough Setup as Always

Whether you're away for two months or twelve, the groundwork is the same as our standard management service: a property visit, professional photography, fire risk and health & safety risk assessments, a tailored welcome guide, and any signage your property needs. Every property has its own quirks and character, and we take the time to get the details right regardless of how long you'll be away.

Staying in touch by phone while your property is managed abroad

We keep in regular contact throughout — including via WhatsApp when that's the easiest way to reach you

Staying in Touch While You're Away

Owners taking this route are often abroad, in a different time zone, or simply hard to reach during the day. We keep in regular contact throughout — including via WhatsApp when that's the easiest way to stay in touch — so you're never left wondering how things are going, wherever in the world you are.

    Who This Suits

This works well for owners heading off on a sabbatical, a long-haul career break, an extended family trip, or a work secondment — anyone who wants their property to keep earning and being looked after, without needing to manage it themselves from afar.

Taking a sabbatical or long-haul career break
Heading overseas for a work secondment or contract
Away on an extended family trip
Simply wanting the property looked after and earning while you're gone

    What It Costs

Because this involves additional flexibility and typically a shorter overall earning window than a full annual holiday-let calendar, our commission for this service is 20% — reflecting the extra work involved in setting up and managing a property on a more condensed timeframe.

If you're planning time away and want your property to keep working for you rather than sitting empty, we'd love to talk it through — every situation is different, and that's exactly the kind of flexible, hands-on management we specialise in.
